Question of the Moment 108

A usual trend in a series is the second book ends up being not as amazing as the first book. It is just what happens sometimes. Even though you know it sometimes/usually happens is it something that you are ok with or are just used to?

I completely understand that more than likely the second book in a series isn't as great as the first book in that series, but it still totally bums me out every time. I don't want to get to used to the idea and I don't think I will. I definitely don't get mad about it or blame the author, but that doesn't mean that I am fine with it. I want the second book to be just as amazing and seeing as how I have read second books before that have been just as good I can't just get used to the idea that you should expect the second book to not be as good.

How do you feel about the second book in a series? Are you used to them being second best to the first book, or do you still get bummed when they aren't as great? Let me know in the comments below =]
