Stephanie Stewart is a typical sixteen-year-old girl—she loves hanging out with her friends, going to concerts, and sipping mocha lattes. Yup. Just your average teenager . . . Except for one difference—she can see and talk to the dead. In fact, Stephanie helps dead girls who who’ve been murdered or killed, cross over. Just as Stephanie is getting used to her unique “gift”, her mom stumbles into some dangerous witchcraft that backfires and triggers similar abilities in Stephanie’s best friend Cura, and nemesis Hillary.
Stephanie already has enough trouble trying to maintain a “normal” life between school and her cute boyfriend Dylan, who happens to have a supernatural talent all his own. But now she has to help her friend Cura and her “frenemy” Hillary cope with their new-found powers as well as cross over two murdered cheerleaders and battle an evil demon who wants to use Stephanie’s supernatural strengths as a free pass to The Other Side. And she needs to do it all while still getting her term papers in on time. She’s definitely going to need an extra-large mocha latte for this.

Excerpt:
Funny how a little thing like a dead chick showing up at a witching ceremony can really clear the room. Or in this case, a condemned sorority building. I’m sure there was a cheesy horror movie idea in there, but I didn’t want to stick around to figure out the ending.
Emily’s screams bounced down the staircase after me like a rubber ball from Hell. I dashed down the rickety staircase, on my mother’s heels. I almost toppled us both the rest of the way after I tripped on a loose board.
Mom yanked me out the front door and we ran to the car. Getting in, Mom quickly pressed a button and I heard the reassuring thwack of the door locks sealing us in. Whew. She gunned the engine of our Toyota Rav4 and sped away. I swear she must have left tire marks.
Neither of us spoke. I knew she had to be pissed at me for trying to “do my thing.” Well, whatever. I was pissed at her for lying to me.
After a few minutes, I peeked at her from the corner of my eye. Her face was a frozen mask that had nothing to do with her bi-monthly trips to the dermatologist. She didn’t look my way or comment on the mess back at the sorority house. They should have realized that they were playing with fire. I mean, it didn’t take a rocket scientist to figure out I was one huge ghost magnet.

Kim’s other published YA fantasies include NO MORE GODDESSSES, GODDESSES CAN WAIT, and EARRINGS OF IXTUMEA. All are available on Barnes & Noble.com and Amazon.
A member of RWA, Kim is currently revising a YA post-apocalyptic novel where a Latina teen questions her cult’s faith. She’s working on a romance set in Tuscany, Italy. She lives in Southern California with her husband, son, and Damon, her pet cockatiel.

OOh nice review! I've never done an audio book. I prefer reading at my own pace I guess. But mostly because I've only ever read a book vs listening to one! I need to read this one this summer because I've had it for a year now! Great review! Glad to hear it was awesome!
ReplyDeleteI've only read one title but Susane Colasanti, but I really loved it. Despite the flaws in All I Need, it still sounds like a pretty likeable read, and I think I'm going to add it to my TBR. Wonderful, honest review :)
ReplyDeleteI'm your newest follower!
I'm glad you enjoyed this read! It is a serial so the series will be made out of shorts like this which will let the author get each installment out faster, hopefully as it goes you'll enjoy it more and more! :)
ReplyDeleteI'll be at BEA this year too! I hope to see you!
ReplyDeleteI'm going to BookCon, but wish I could go to BEA! Unfortunately I'm just taking the train in for the day so I'm not sure if I'll have time to look at other sites. I'd LOVE to see the Statue of Liberty up close!
ReplyDeleteI wish I could offer some advice on these books but i haven't read any of them either. I have thought of reading the mediator series myself. My TTT
ReplyDeleteI really need to get around to reading The Jewel. Hopefully soon! Great list. :-)
ReplyDeleteYes to Sloppy Firsts. Hope you like it as much as I did!
ReplyDeleteHere's mine: Best Moving-and-Starting-Over Books!
You have a great line up for the summer. Enjoy.
ReplyDeleteMy Top Ten Tuesday is here.
Great list! Cannot recommend Sarah Rees Brennan's 'Untold' enough, such an amazing writer and such a great series!
ReplyDeleteMy TTT
Many of the book covers for the books you want to read this summer are very eye catching!!
ReplyDeleteHere's the link to my Top Ten Tuesday post for this week: http://captivatedreader.blogspot.com/2015/05/top-ten-tuesday-sexy-male-characters-in.html
OOoh nice review! I have this in my TBR Mountain of Doom! Mostly because I LOVED the Lux series as well! Heard good things about this one too so I look forward to reading it!
ReplyDeleteOOOh nice!! I like the new logo! Very cool!
ReplyDeleteI'm only going to BookCon one day, but I'm super excited!
ReplyDeleteIf you ever meet up with John Grisham tell him he is AWESOME! XOXO
ReplyDeleteI read the Selection series and I honestly didn't know if I wanted to continue. I wasn't in love with it like I thought I'd be and I was seriously okay with it ending with three books. Then I heard the news that there were going to be more. I didn't plan on reading the Heir, but now you have me very curious. Curious enough that I want to try it out and see if I'd like it and want to continue on with the series.
ReplyDeleteI LOVE this book series! It's my favorite of Meg Cabot's, I think!
ReplyDeleteAwesome haul of books this week. I loved how much more organized that BEA was at some booths. I hope that you love everything that you got.
ReplyDeleteGrace @ Books of Love
After the Red Rain! I am so looking forward to that one. Looks like you had a blast at BEA!
ReplyDeleteYou got so many great books! I can't wait until I get my hands on a copy of Nowhere But Here.
ReplyDeleteKrystianna @ Downright Dystopian
SO MANY BOOKS! AH!
ReplyDeleteIt looks like you had an amazing time at BEA! And you got some INCREDIBLE books! I hope you love, love, love them all! I have never been to BEA. Maybe next year will be when I finally get to go :)
ReplyDeleteI hope you have a fantastic week :) Happy Reading!
Michelle @ Book Briefs
This is so awesome. First of all let me say that the shirts you and your mom wore were so cute!! I I wish I thought of something clever like that but alas I do not have a creative bone in my body.! I would basically sell my soul for The Marvels & Cleopatras Shadow!!! They look so very amazing and I've been dying to get my hands on both!!!! Thank you for this awesomely generous giveaway!
ReplyDelete❤️Britt
Ah wish I could have gone this year but life commitments stopped me. But, next year BEA will be close that I have to go! I would REALLY live Witch Hunter and Omega
ReplyDeleteWitch hunter and either omega or the hired girl!
ReplyDeleteI would love to have George and The Marvels. Thank you so much for having this giveaway.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad to see that you liked this one! I really want to check out this series.
ReplyDeleteKrystianna @ Downright Dystopian
I have this one but not read it. I keep telling myself I will..lol.
ReplyDeleteRead it! lol It was seriously great!
ReplyDeleteGreat review!

What's the best book to suggest or buy for a English language student/young adult in a foreign (primarily non-English speaking) country?
ReplyDeleteShe's an English-language learner but a French speaker.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations!
ReplyDeleteVery groovy! Congrats on getting to join an awesome team doing something cool for authors. I love that pen-squid logo they've come up with, and it's neat to see it on your blog now! I only just started following this blog, but I'm glad to see other people think you're cool too ;)
ReplyDeleteI agree they shouldn't be stressful and I am a bit of a mood reader so when I put a list out that I am going to read I never ended up reading half of them...lol. I change my mind to much! :)
ReplyDeleteCan't wait for the next Bout!
Stormi
Bout Updates
Yay! I'm glad you managed to have so much fun and keep the stress so low...I can get the same way, and have to watch myself. So often I equate fun with high-intensity and acutally stressful events. (IF I'M NOT STRESSED I'M NOT HAVING ENOUGH FUN!)
ReplyDeleteI'm very intrigued by Suicide Notes From Beautiful Girls...will you be doing a review of that?
Thanks! Glad someone knows how I feel lol.
ReplyDeleteI actually just reviewed Suicide Notes from Beautiful Girls on the blog. Here is the link if you want to check it out... http://www.bookbitereviews.com/2015/08/bbreview-suicide-notes-from-beautiful.html
Same here. When I make a list I feel like i'm confined to that list. Like i'm not allowed to deviate from it so I end up just not reading at all. I'm the one who made the list, which means they're no rules! lol but for some reason my mind feels like it has no option but to stick to the list. I'm a weirdo...
ReplyDeleteGreat! Thanks so much. I only just subscribed to your blog, but I'm glad I mntioned SNFBG, otherwise I would have missed it!
ReplyDeleteHahaha, I like that you let us know it isn't TOO sexy. So much new adult seems to revolve around relationships that are just a bit more intimate and physically intense than you can successfully market to a strictly teenage audience. It's probably still not a good book for me just because I need to be kept guessing by the plot of a book, but it sounds like the author did a lot of things right and is going to make her readership happy here :)
ReplyDeleteAw, it's no fun when a book that has potential fails to live up to it. Sounds like there was a lot of neat concepts in here, but it just wasn't executed well. Story structure is amazingly important...it never ceases to amaze me how much something like pacing can trip up an otherwise solid story. Thanks for the review!
ReplyDeleteThese covers are ALL so beautiful! I love the cool but crisp colors, and how much motion they convey with the way the girls are positioned and their hair seems to be always falling. There's a very liquid element to Lea Nolan's books, as if they're trying to hint at how smooth the writing is :)
ReplyDeleteI've been meaning to read one of JA's books, I feel like her style of books if Francine Pascal's Sweet Valley high books! Nice post! Also, I am running the Book Blog awards this year for the 2nd year in a row and wanted to let you know nominations are open until October 31st. There are 15 awards up for grabs this

Oh man. This book does sound like it has meat to it! It also sounds pretty heartbreaking. I can't imagine how all these problems must manifest not only in Andrea's life, but in their relationship as well.
ReplyDeleteThere are definitely plenty of ups and downs in this one! I highly recommend you pick it up!
ReplyDeleteDefinitely check them out, they are AMAZING! And thanks I'll be sure to nominate and vote!
ReplyDelete"Everything seemed perfect for a time, but with this new progression of
ReplyDeletetechnology, the population began to grow rapidly, more quickly than any
other time in history. Elderly people would continue to buy new, younger
bodies, and the sick could also receive a transfer..." I love how she so quickly sets up a deathly strange constraint on her world and introduces an environment that has the exact opposite problem of mankind's oldest grief. Death as a problem not because it is heartbreaking, but because it isn't arriving. This whole excerpt is intriguing, but that really stood out to me.
Thanks for being part of the blog tour!
ReplyDeleteYay! Your review totally made my day! Thank you so much for taking the time to read The Ghost Host and especially for reviewing it :) I'm so thrilled you enjoyed the book!
ReplyDeleteThanks again for having Echo and Malachi on your blog!
Wow, wow, wow! This is the freshest, most imaginative paranormal plot I've heard in ages! I love everything about this, and the modern inclusion of a youtube vlogging series XD This seems so real...like what a young woman would ACTUALLY do if she was struck by this strange curse. There is so much potential here, and the excerpt just forwards my interest...Why aren't you giving away a copy of the book?! Haha :)
ReplyDeleteThis is a super interesting concept. I am so psyched to see something so original hitting the press! I hope the rest of your blog tour goes wonderfully :)
ReplyDeleteYou are very welcome! Thanks for giving me such an amazing reading experience! It's been too long since I've read a book I can't put down. LOVE that feeling!
ReplyDeletelol probably because it's so good people will pay! It really was a fantastic read! Make sure to pick up your copy soon and tell me how you like it!
ReplyDeleteHi Audrey! Thanks for taking the time to check out The Ghost Host! I'm so glad you like the concept! This has been such a fun project to work on :) If you're interested in reviewing, find me on facebook or twitter!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much Audrey!
ReplyDeleteOh wow! What a crazy direction for a second book to take! I love it when authors switch up what characters they follow or whose story they tell in a sequel, but this sounds really insane. How can she do a convincing narrative from the perspective of someone who has short term memory issues??? I don't know, but seeing as though she did, it sounds really interesting.
ReplyDeleteMerry Christmas to you too!
ReplyDeleteThief of Lies does sound so good! I have a copy so I'm hoping to get to it soon. :)
ReplyDeleteKrystianna @ Downright Dystopian
OOoh great picks!! I loooooved Remembrance! Edelweiss actually approved my request or the pub did and it shocked the heck out of me! I couldn't put it down because I loved this series so hard as a teen!
ReplyDeleteHere's my Tuesday Post
Have a GREAT day!

This Is Where It Ends and A Court of Mist and Fury were both on my list this week too. I'm slightly sad that I forgot to add Thief of Lies to my list, because I added it to my TBR a few weeks ago, thinking it sounded really good!

I love the cover, the background design is very unique and cool looking and I love the way the guy seems to be flying out of the design ......love it....
ReplyDeleteI'm really happy to hear you enjoyed this! Thank you so much for hosting a tour stop and sharing your thoughts!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for the great review! :)
ReplyDeleteI would love to read this and have it marked TBR on Goodreads. Love the contest too!
ReplyDeleteOOoh nice! I still need to read this one as well! I thought it sounded creepy, but sad to hear it wasn't as creepy as you had been anticipating. But still, I think it might be "weird" enough with a side of caution to keep me going! Lol! Great review!
ReplyDeleteI'm glad to see that you liked this one! It sounds pretty interesting. :)
ReplyDeleteKrystianna @ Downright Dystopian
This one definitely looks interesting! I do wish it was a little creepier/scarier, but I'll take what I can get when it comes to YA!
ReplyDeleteThank you very much for hosing me. Megan x
ReplyDeleteThis sounds like an amazing book, and the cover is beautiful!
ReplyDeleteThanks for helping reveal this cover!

ReplyDeleteI love this book and it's meaning, about having a voice because a lot of the time you may feel you don't have a voice or an opinion that people find worthwhile, but you always do no matter who wants to listen you matter.......thank you for reminding me of that.....
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for hosting a tour stop!
ReplyDeleteWow, this sounds so good and I love the cover. I really need to fit more steampunk into my TBR!

This was my first BEA and I really liked Chicago but it might be because it's really my first big city...lol. We went to a baseball game, got to hang out with narrators at the Naudies and wow BEA was exhausting but fun at the same time...lol. I do see some books that you got that I didn't get! :)
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for sharing!

ReplyDeleteSeeing ARCs on Ebay makes me sick. Which is probably why I'm never on Ebay! LOL! But seriously $70 for a SAMPLER! Are they freaking nuts? Do they really think someone will pay THAT much for a SAMPLE!! It's like charging $25 for a bit of cake at the bakery! It's a sample after all, so fork over the big bucks for a teeny tiny taste!
I know I have a pile of old ARCs that I am in the process of trying to find homes for. I've had them for awhile with no bites on my trade list. So I think I'm going to donate them somewhere. But selling on Ebay? Yeah right. I still stumble upon the occasional ARC at Half Price Books and I'm always left with a dilemma. Do I tell HPB they can't sell this? Do I just take it since it clearly says NOT FOR SALE? I never know what to do.
I feel like giveaways can be okay in a sense, because you're giving them to other readers who you might know and who really want to read said book. Of course, they may read it and then sell it. But I feel like the majority of people who enter my contests are followers and I know them in that way you know other bloggers through commenting and whatnot. But there's always someone who will be the difference and make you realize you trusted wrong. Giveaways are definitely a sticky matter. I say this because I am planning a giveaway soon of the BEA ARCs I got that after looking over aren't really ones I want. There aren't any that I really feel I need to have right now either that I would trade for, My BEA pile that I want is overwhelming and plus I still really want to read a lot of the books I've bought over the years! Lol! No one truly appreciates how stressful the life of a reader can be!
Great post! I totally agree with all that you said! Sometimes we need to vent! That's what makes a blog perfect for!
Thank you so much for hosting me today! :)
ReplyDeleteOOh nice! Can't wait for Heartless and Last Seen Alive either!

ReplyDeleteSo tired of reading that the author was "almost kidnapped" as child. Why is she clinging to this? Her books are well written, but her characters are awful, selfish and unsympathetic (based on reading her last two novels).
ReplyDeleteA
ReplyDeletecompelling tale with peculiar characters, at once both fantastic and
rooted in the comfort of your own mind. For lovers of Coraline, the

ReplyDeleteI am sorry it took me so long to reply. I have had company for tow and a half weeks. Anyway, thanks for doing TMST. I totally agree with you, I went through the same problems. I wanted books from authors and publisher, but then I felt too much pressure. These days, I am reviewing more of a balance of what I want to read and ARCS. It helps with the slumps like you said.
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for the amazing review ❤
