Follow Friday #23
This Weeks Follow Friday Question: Jumping Genres: Ever pick up a book from a genre you usually don't like and LOVE it? Tell us about it and why you picked it up in the first place.
Well, it is kind of a funny story, because if I hadn't of picked up this book Book Bite Reviews probably wouldn't exist. About three, four years ago my cousin/best friend Sarah was reading a book with the rest of her friends religiously. All she talked about was this series and was saying how she was going to go to Washington, find her own vampire to fall in love with, and have a happy life.
You guess it... that book was Twilight .
At first I was dead set against it. I used to only read YA contemporary. Sure I LOVED horror movies, but the thought of falling in love with that monster was just insane to me. Well, she finally convinced me to read the first book after constant begging and I couldn't put it down. I fell in love. I went out the next day bought all the rest of the novels in the series and devoured them in three days. After that I had to read more YA Paranormal. I never knew how many were out there or that it even existed!! Now I am a twi-hard, but I know some people aren't. BUT without that novel I wouldn't have gotten hooked on the genre or started this blog. Maybe I would have eventually found YA Paranormals, but not as easy as when I did.
What book did you pick up and not expect to love? Follow me and leave a link back to yours and I will follow back =D

Hi Becky! New follower hopping through! I had to smile at your choice... Twilight brought a lot of readers back to YA and opened up the doors for the paranormal... myself included! Happy Friday!
ReplyDeleteTwilight is one of the main reasons I really got hooked on Paranormal period.

Thanks have a great one as well =D
ReplyDeleteI don't like Twilight, but the one thing about this book is the fact that it got a lot of people hooked to reading :) Not that it's the best book to stick with, but she did a good job with that.. that's the only positive thing I can say :')
ReplyDeleteI still haven't read a lot of paranormal books. But that's because some genres are so hard to define. Sometimes I don't even know which genre I'm reading. They sure know how to make it difficult :p

Thanks for following! Will definitely stop by =D
ReplyDeleteCompletely understandable. Twilight just isn't for everyone =]
ReplyDeleteAnd yes, genre definition can be extremely difficult at times lol
Thanks for stopping by =D
What a great story! My mom said no one would read young adult fiction for as long as I did... but guess what, she was wrong! :-)

Hahah the same thing pretty much happened to me. Twilight got me into the whole paranormal / vamp genre and if it weren't for that I probably wouldn't even be a big reader. It was actually the Hunger Games that made me create my blog actually but I don't think I would have wanted to read it if it wasn't for the craze, which I remembered Twilight also had.
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by!

I hear you on that one, My daughter told me I needed to read Twilight, so I did, and also fell in love, and I live just a few hours from Forks myself, I live in the rainforest actually, love the shade and trees, I can't be in the sun much, i have a skin condition, lost my pigmentation in my skin, so i am white as an albino, and will burn in minutes, lol, so perfect for me, less sun. Well, thats the series that started me into YA Paranormal, I had read some adult paranormal, like the Night Huntress series, but other than that, not alot, I realized the YA paranormal is just as good, so I am with you on that. Here is my post. FF Post
ReplyDeleteby the way, I only read books with some Paranormal/supernatural in them, and fantasy, or i get bored. :)
Wow that is awesome to live so close to forks!! That would seriously be awesome! Thank you so much for stopping by and commenting =D Will definitely check out your post!!
